Im 23 years old and have been diagnosed with panic disorder and GED. I stopped taking my medication almost 5 months ago (was on Paxil 10mg/day since august 2007), and i was doing jsut fine, until i got a really bad cold. My panic attacks came back, and i was anxious all over again…its just such a horrible feeling. I started feeling the numbness in my head again and it freaked me out so made my doctor write me a CT scan, i had one before about a year and a half ago when I got the GED and panic attacks. So now that is freaking me out i regret getting it done again but i just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong in my brain because the feeling just does not go away (stupid i know). the plus side is i can control it better now, but i jsut dont feel like my self, I'm scared of doing things incase i get a panic attack, i try to suck it up and distract my self but the feelign is just there, oh and i start crying out of no where too just because im soo tired of tryinggg (im crying while im typing this). Thefore im thinking about going back on the pills!!! any suggestions of what i should do, should i go back on them and just get my self back to normal and try to tapper of them after I feel better?? i just need someone who has exprience with thsi to give me some advicee!! the doctor was wondering why i decided to get off them to begin with and i was like because i dont want to take pills for the rest of my life. He said that he is going to suggest a therapist for me and someone will call me to set up and appointment and this was a month ago and no calls. So i dont know waht to do, i want to go back on the meds just to feel the relief for a bit!! any advice or suggestion is appreciated, i am desperate for help!!

I've been having panic attacks for 13 yrs! They started when I was 14 and I'm still having them. Like you I've tried to wean myself off of them several times, but I always end up back on them. Some people are helped by therapy, which can teach you different ways to try to handle the panic attacks without drugs. They didn't work for me, but it is worth a shot because many people are helped by them. I read a book that may also help you "Power Over Panic" by Bronwyn Fox. Since your doctor hasn't called you, take charge and make yourself an appointment. Look up therapists in your area, call them up, explain that you have panic attacks and would like couseling on ways to deal with them without drugs and they will make you an appointment with someone that will have knowledge in this area.

Bipolar Disorder and medical marijuana?

Posted by: admin | Comments (3)

Does anyone have evidence either way that can prove bipolar disorder is effective or not? I don't want your opinions. There's a lot of myths about marijuana. I'd rather evidence. I'm for it. I have bipolar disorder and it's quite effective with minimal side effects, if any. I've haven't smoked for a year and my mood swings have been RIDICULOUS. I was having a manic episode recently for the past month. I couldn't sleep and ANXIETY, lol. After 4 visits with my psychiatrist, with their meds making it worse actually, I decided to smoke some marijuana

Instant relief. Slept like a baby that night.

I already called out one of "Above the Influence's" sources that said marijuana can induce psychosis and/or depression. He admitted that he's most likely wrong. Just thought I'd throw that in there, for all of you who is so quick to say it's horrible : P

I have Bi - Polar and have had multiple hospitalizations being treated for years with a cocktail of pills and injections. I always seemed to end up back in the same spot hearing the same few things from doctor
1. It may take up to 8 weeks before you begin to feel better
2. If it doesn't work we can try something else

The fact of the matter was it took well over two years to find a combination of about 7 different meds a day just to maintain me and I would still end up in the hospital a few times a year.

Then I was forced to move and lost insurance and I began experimenting using Marijuana medically to help alleviate the moods and some issues i had with insomnia and just like you the relief was instant not months to know "if it was going to work" No money wasted on co pays to see if it worked it just worked. I have been vaporizing cannabis to treat the bipolar and insomnia and for me it works. I haven't been admitted into the hospital while using to treat the bipolar nor have I had any of the side affects associated with ambien and "sleep driving" (yes it happened to me)
Just like you I'm not interested in what someones morality is (tell that to the drunk who beats his wife) I am simply interested in what works, what keeps me going from day to day. For me it works
