Social anxiety disorder is mostly a psychological problem so I would advise you to go to a psychologist. You can significantly reduce your social anxiety through a variety of interesting strategies without medications. Control Your Reaction to Fear - Overcoming these reactions is as simple as learning relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, and self hypnosis; Prepare Yourself Mentally - Rather than let your fear of embarrassment or humiliation overwhelm you in social settings, role play a few scenarios in advance to make sure you are well prepared for any challenging situations. If you are prepared for things that can go wrong and you know what to do and say in those awkward moments, you will have the confidence to keep calm and handle the situation well; Face Your Fears - Sometimes, our social fears does not stem from a lack of social skills, but rather from a sense of insecurity and a lack of esteem. By stepping outside your comfort zone and placing yourself in uncomfortable situations such as speaking in front of your peers or complimenting someone, and doing it repeatedly, the easier it becomes. Soon you will soon realize that there is actually nothing to fear from most people and you may even enjoy and laugh about it; Positive Visualization And Affirmation - The way you think strongly influences the way you feel. The realization that only you can control how you think, and how those thoughts control you, is an important step in overcoming social anxiety. When those thoughts, such as “I’m going to fail” or “they will make fun of me” begin making their way into your mind, challenge those negativity and replace them with more realistic, calmer thoughts. Tell yourself that you are capable, confident, and wonderful to combat those negative thoughts. Positive visualization and affirmation are helpful in motivating you along the road to curing yourself of this problem and improving your self worth. Some people have found reading various Self Help Article to be of benefit in overcoming their Anxiety like this one I posted below.
References :
Self-help from http://www.selfhelpmagazine.com/.
I suffer from axiety attacks, or panic attacks as they are also reffered to. generally in meeting rooms and crouded places, i had pretty much given up on myself getting over the issue and thought i'd be avoiding situation all through my life. but my doctor prescribed me some "propranolol" (litterally about 5 days ago) which basically blocks the adrenalin gland somehow, thus stopping the panic attacks, heart racing, sweating, dizzyness, and it seems to give me a sense of no fear around situations i'd normally dread. you can get this drug (propranolol) in very low 10mg doses, and they give it to people taking driving tests / it's also used for performers to combat stage fright / and for people with heart conditions as it regulates their heart beat.
i have had no side effects and it is effective within an hour after taking it. not addictive either so this would be a great temporary solution to get you on right track. for me so far so good... look it up
i am slowly putting myself in situation that trigger of my anxiety attacks so that i can train my mind to see that i'm going to be ok, i'm not going to burn up and die, and eventually stop taking it.
it's stopped all my fears over night!
References :
It's highly unlikely to get results in just one or two sessions.

Social Anxiety Disorder -- more commonly known as social phobia -- is treated primarily through anti-anxiety medication as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. In the therapy, you discuss the causes of your social anxiety and learn to take those negative feelings, deal with them, and respond positively.

In essence, you find the core of the problem to eliminate your fears, not just a quick-fix that won't last. The goal of the treatment is to cure your disorder, not just wipe it over.
References :
http://www.healthline.com/channel/social-anxiety-disorder.html

I had EMDR Therapy, it helped TREMENDOUSLY (see link below). I was also treated with Klonopin for a short amount of time (a few months). I also participated in traditional talk therapy for a few years. I would HIGHLY recommend therapy, it helped me so much, I can actually go out and have fun now!
References :
http://www.emdr.com/

Neurosis is a more old fashioned term that is no longer used in mainstream psychiatric dialogue (in the US anyway). It refers to a group of mental disorders in which general behavior is within societal norms, and there are no hallucinations or distortions of that type, but the patient experiences distress from a particular stimulus, or, in the case of generalized anxiety disorder, no stimulus at all. So "neurosis" is an umbrella term for a variety of nervous/stress disorders such as anxiety, OCD, hysteria, hypochondria etc.

If you are interested, Jung's theory of neurosis is very interesting and can be found at the link below.
References :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jung%27s_theory_of_neurosis

Neurosis can cover a lot of different disorders, for instance, compulsions, paranoia, phobias, delusions, psychosis, paralyzing fears, etc., etc. In other words, neurosis is much worse than anxiety. Anxiety is just being worried or uneasy or nervous about things that may or may not happen. I believe that there are different degrees of both neurosis and anxiety, anywhere from mild to severe. Maybe you should discuss with your therapist to put you on a mild tranqulizer like Xanax or Valium to keep the anxiety down.
References :
Hi, Martin!
I found the information below about how to deal with panic attacks and want to share it with you. Hope it'll will be helpful.

The tips are:

-Diet
The more balanced your diet the easier it is for your mind/body relationship to feel strong and secure. There are certain foods that are good at building inner calm and other ones that you need to avoid.

-Exercise
Besides the obvious health and relaxation benefits‚ exercise gives you a sample of what it is like to put your body into an exerted state just as if you were having a panic attack. This way you can learn to become comfortable with the heightened state of exertion without fearing that your body will not be able to handle it.

-Distraction
General anxiety is experienced by many people with panic and anxiety disorders. Distraction helps you to retrain your focus and keep your attention on what is going on around you.

-Elimination anxious thoughts
All people who have ended panic and anxiety in their lives have in some way either intentionally or unintentionally re–trained themselves to think in a positive constructive manner rather than negative spirals of anxious thought.
References :
http://panicaway.express-info.com

Ive suffered with anxiety and panic for 15yrs. Ive tried drugs from my doctor but feel they dont help! Everyone has something that helps when in full panic mode its just finding what helps. Mine is going for a walk when im panicking or playing a game on the pc or my sons ds as i find if i concentrate on that it tends to help keep the mind off my palputations and chest pain etc. Sometimes drinking cold water helps as our brains cant cope with doing two things at once. I personaly feel that websites that offer instant relief and cures are rubbish ok they maybe help some but its what comes from within us that cures and helps ourselves. plus anysite that claims they can cure us in 5 mins for a one off payment is so very wrong!
